BREAKing THE SILENCE

In our campaign against FGM, we empower women with the tools to reshape their own destinies, and in doing so, we shape a world where the practice of FGM is but a memory of the past.

Community Conversations: Addressing Gender-Based Violence

At FAWE Somalia, we've been at the forefront of transforming communities and we invite you to join us in our journey. Our project started in 2017 and was implemented with the support of UNDP, focused on two critical areas: raising awareness about Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and preventing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). This partnership opportunity allows you to be a part of a transformative initiative with a lasting impact.

What We've Achieved:

GBV Awareness and Community Conversations:

  • We conducted 30 impactful GBV campaigns across nine IDP camps and three primary schools in Puntland.

  • Our campaigns reached 3,663 individuals, including 2,631 women and 1,032 men.

  • We addressed essential topics, including understanding GBV, its types, associated health issues, reporting mechanisms, available support services, and FGM.

Community Empowerment:

  • In addition to public lectures, we conducted home visits, which proved invaluable in educating communities about GBV and identifying GBV cases.

  • Our dedicated staff, trained by UNDP, recruited and trained seven resource persons (RPs) to assist with GBV campaigns. These RPs played a vital role in raising awareness and supporting GBV survivors.

The Path Forward:

  • We are determined to continue our work, but we need partners who share our commitment. While we've made strides, we still face challenges in involving legal authorities, making your support even more crucial.

  • Our partnerships have the power to make lasting changes in the lives of those affected by GBV and FGM.

Join Our Cause:

We invite you to be a part of this transformative mission to raise awareness and eliminate GBV and FGM in the region. Together, we can create a world where individuals are empowered, informed, and free from the shackles of harmful practices.
